Student N: Ms. F, if you were angry with us, would you tell us?
Me: If I were angry with you, you would know.
Student N: Oh...'cause it seems like you are angry with us for asking questions all the time.
Me: [surprised] What? No, I love your questions. I'll never get angry about you asking questions. If I seem frustrated when your class asks lots of questions, it's because there is a schedule we have to get through and we don't have time to just discuss your questions.
Student N: So you are angry but you're just angry at the system?
Me: Yep. Frustrated with the system that's stymieing your curiosity.

Cinquain Poems

Yesterday the class wrote cinquain poems. It’s a five-line poem, with a certain amount of syllables in each line. The pattern is: 2, 4, 6, 8, 2.

But, yes, not everyone needs to go to college. Certainly there are needed professions that don’t involve college and I think every steering every child towards college might not always be in their best interest. But I wish you were a little more enthusiastic about them learning more.

Pretty neat article.
Our school has notoriously low parental involvement, which sucks just as much as helicopter parents.
Calling home and getting the “they’re your problem until 3 PM” is a tough cookie to swallow. We give parents the tools to be involved. We call home with absences, give them access to student grades, and they still blame us for stuff that happens between 7 am...
